Salary Range: $109,162-$159,162 annually
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Status: Temporary, Full-Time (contract until October 2027)

Position Summary

UHN’s Research Directorate is looking for an experienced and dynamic professional to fill the key role of Finance Manager, overseeing Governance, Controls and Compliance, in our Research Financial Services Department.

The Research Financial Services department oversees the management of financial resources for UHN’s Research Directorate, including strategic financial and business planning, controllership, financial reporting and analysis, and the post-award financial management of over 6,000 federal, provincial, and international grants, philanthropic funding for research, and private contracts.

Duties

  • Develop and implement governance structures across Research business lines (grants, institutes, cores, support services, commercial activities)
  • Create and maintain policies and practice guidelines, strengthen financial controls, monitor internal policy and accounting standard compliance, assess and report risks
  • Lead the Expense Claims Processing team (5 analysts + 1 Senior Business Analyst); provide guidance on expense policy application and financial reporting
  • Support Research Operations during granting agency audits and internal financial reporting
  • Build and manage effective stakeholder relationships with a focus on exemplary customer service
  • Identify process gaps and drive efficiency by leveraging technology to reduce manual work
  • Maintain oversight of Research financial reporting tools
  • Participate in committees and contribute to strategic financial decisions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CA, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in compliance or audit (experience in not-for-profit is an asset)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a well‑functioning team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), with ability to interact at all organizational levels
  • Self-motivated, proactive, with excellent organizational/prioritization skills in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated project execution skills with minimal supervision
  • Ability to draft policies and develop implementation communication plans
  • Competence in designing, analyzing, preparing, and implementing compliance/audit procedures
  • Ability to monitor audit processes and maintain related data
  • Highly computer literate: advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office Suite
  • Experience with SAP systems is an asset
