University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Senior Business Analyst (Finance) in our Altum Finance department.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Manager, Altum Finance, the Senior Business Analyst (Finance) will provide finance support to the Rehabilitation, Independent Medical Exam and Prosthetic and Orthotics division. Ideal for an outgoing accountant with strong business acumen who enjoys driving process improvement and strategic problem solving. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a fast-paced team supporting one of the world’s most respected academic health science centers.

As an integral member of the Altum Finance team, the responsibilities of the Senior Business Analyst will vary from assignment to assignment including but not limited to:

  • Provide detailed department analysis of actual expenditure vs budget / forecast including identifying expense trends and provide an analysis of variances.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financial packages and dashboards for management to facilitate the decision making and financial reporting process.
  • Review and prepare annual operating budget and maintain up-to-date forecasts for assigned portfolios.
  • Prepares monthly financial month-end journal entries and reconciliations relevant to the assigned portfolio.
  • Manage monthly special financial results and variance & margin analysis to ensure appropriate controls over project performance in conjunction with the Senior Manager Finance.
  • Perform profitability Analysis and report on Accounts receivable by portfolio/program/ patient.
  • Work with business area managers and directors to prepare a preliminary assessment of risks & opportunities in business portfolio on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare formal written and oral presentations to internal and external decision makers.
  • Assist with audits, external data report and perform in-depth written analysis, as required.
  • Identify accounting issues, process issues and make solid recommendations.
  • Lead, actively participate and contribute in interdisciplinary meetings with different client groups.
  • Performs cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested, including providing training and back-up support for other financial analysts as required.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Co-pilot to improve efficiency and insight generation, ensuring outputs are critically assessed for accuracy and business relevance.

Qualifications

  • University Degree and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, MBA is an asset.
  • 5 years’ experience in large complex accounting or auditing environment with exposure to a range of accounting principles, practices and procedures required.
  • Computer software proficiency in SAP S4 HANA, EPIC, Advanced Excel (ex: Power Query, Power Pivot, Financial Modelling) and Power BI, with an aptitude for learning new computer applications quickly.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and attention to detail with the ability to identify trends, and provide business recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to prioritize work.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and embrace challenges.
  • Excellent client services skills required.
  • Adheres to confidentiality policy for sensitive financial data and information and can adhere to UHN policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work accurately under time constraints required.
  • Experience with process improvement.
  • Critical thinking skills and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Ability to work independently and as a great team player who brings the positive impact to the team and thrives in a changing environment.
