Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director, AMS/SAP, the Manager, SAP Financial Applications is responsible for managing the team of Information Technology Staff that develop and operate the SAP Financial Information System (FIS) and related non-SAP systems including solutions from Serrala, Jaeggar, Kahua, and others. Working in collaboration with the Associate Director, AMS/SAP, the incumbent will also identify and recommend new technologies with respect to on-going development and enhancement of the financial systems. Attention to modern financial processing workflows, current best practices, and new technologies related to financial information systems, from both SAP and non-SAP providers, will be required for this position.

The incumbent is responsible for supervising staff assigned to support these various applications. The incumbent works closely with other Information and Technology management staff with respect to their areas of responsibility, to ensure that development meets the administrative standards, policies, and security requirements of the Institutional information systems at the University of Toronto.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY:

The incumbent will have a primary responsibility of leading the team that evaluates, informs solution design, and implements solution enhancements from the perspective of the Financial Services Division and other major stakeholders. They will work closely with stakeholders to define and coordinate functionality required and execute development, implementation, and integration as required.

  • Reviews and approves all SAP configuration and/or programming for FIS/SA and related financial systems.
  • Provides input into the functional and architectural design of the financial systems at the U of T
  • Coordinates other members of the project team by: estimating, assigning, reviewing work; setting priorities; recommending required training; providing input on project member's performance.
  • Assists in evaluating products or tools to determine compatibility with client’s requirements and in making acquisition recommendations.
  • Develop processes and procedures to manage changes to systems (e.g., upgrades, implementation of new software).
  • Evaluate change requests from other departments/users to determine if changes are feasible, to assess the impact of changes and to decide what resources would be needed.
  • Manages staff to ensure work tasks are completed on schedule and standards and policies are followed.
  • Defines roles and responsibilities of staff, based on understanding of individual skills and project requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • University graduate or combination of formal education and experience. Recognized degree or certification in Finance or Accounting preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least five years of experience in areas such as project management, business analysis and automated office tools, networks, software development tools and techniques.
  • Project management experience is required.
  • At least five years of experience with SAP is required.
  • Experience managing a system within a similar public sector institution such as a college, university or hospital setting preferred.
  • Supervisory experience required.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated HR management experience in a unionized environment.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to take functional requirements and abstract them into models and concepts.
  • Working knowledge of desktop office tools such as Excel, Powerpoint, Word etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experienced in change management and testing protocols for large system development.

OTHER:

  • Incumbent requires good understanding of the University business environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
