The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is a multidisciplinary research community where investigators across engineering, medicine and dentistry collaborate to develop innovative solutions that address global challenges in human health. Located in the heart of Canada’s largest health-care research network, our faculty offer quality education to students who receive training in biomedical and clinical engineering. These highly experienced faculty have been involved in launching more than 20 start-up companies and driving three major biomedical engineering commercialization ventures.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Finance and Business Officer, the Financial Officer provides financial support to the Institute of Biomedical Engineering by drafting financial reports, updating data into FIS, HRIS and supporting departmental payroll process. The incumbent works closely with the Senior Finance and Business Officer and faculty to ensure business transactions are aligned with generally accepted accounting principles, and the University’s financial and purchasing policies and guidelines. The incumbent brings a strong understanding of financial management, analysis and auditing, and a high degree of professionalism and customer service to facilitate the achievement of departmental goals.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
- Coding financial information for processing in FIS and HRIS
- Checking that proper approvals are obtained prior to processing transactions
- Generating standard financial reports
- Obtaining required authorizations and signatures to process financial documents
- Reconciling accounts
- Processing payroll
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Accounting or Finance or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum three years of relevant experience includingaccounts receivable, payroll, FIS and HRIS or similar systems
- Experience applying and interpreting financial policies is required
- Experience with processing accounts payable (e.g. invoices, expense reimbursements, purchase orders) and accounts receivable (e.g. deposits), specifically reviewing supporting documents for compliance, data inputting, and generating standard system reports
- Advanced mathematical and Microsoft Excel skills; XLOOKUP, What-if statements, Pivot table knowledge is required
- Strong (verbal and written) communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, good judgment, diplomacy and confidentiality in all matters
- Must have effective problem solving ability and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
