Your opportunity:

Reporting to Manager, Residence life, the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) supports the delivery of a robust residence life program at Woodsworth College. The RLC is instrumental in fostering a safe, supportive and inclusive residence community that is conducive to students’ academic success and personal growth.

The Residence Life Coordinator’s responsibilities include developing activities, services, and supports for residents; assisting with the selection, training and supervision of Residence Dons and other student-staff; advising student leaders; supporting students and facilitating referrals; routine and emergency on-call response and issues management; and a variety of related administrative tasks.

The RLC must live in residence at Woodsworth College and a small, private apartment is provided as a taxable benefit. They are required to be on-call frequently and working irregular work hours including evenings and weekends; and must be able to attend on-site to urgent and/or timely matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Advising students on the interpretation of rules and regulations regarding the use of space and organizing events on campus
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Advising students on personal and academic issues by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
  • Determining appropriate disciplinary actions for breaches of community standards and/or housing policies.
  • Applying established standards when responding to emergencies.
  • Liaising with various stakeholders to foster collaboration
  • Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university service

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years full-time experience working in a live-in, on-call residence life context in a post-secondary setting.
  • Experience developing and facilitating training and programming, and preparing accompanying resources, for students, student leaders, and/or student-staff.
  • Experience advising and collaborating successfully with student leaders and/or groups
  • Demonstrated student-centred, developmental approach to working with students, with integration of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience investigating and adjudicating alleged violations of residence policy.
  • Demonstrated experience with event planning, risk assessment, and financial management.
  • Ability to be on-call frequently and work irregular workhours including evenings and weekends; and must be ableto attend on-site to urgent and/or timely matters.
  • Certified in ASIST and Standard First Aid & CPR (C)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, coach, and motivate student-staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish priorities, and meet deadlines while negotiating unpredictable emergent needs.
  • A high degree of flexibility and adaptability is required.
  • Ability to exercise tact and sound judgment in dealing with others and difficult issues
  • Ability to solve problems in accordance with established procedures while under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and achieve established goals
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Intermediate skills using social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok) for student communications and outreach purposes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Woodsworth College and University of Toronto is an asset
  • Proficiency with StarRez a significant asset.
