The University of Toronto Entrepreneurship (UTE) is part of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation portfolio and is situated within the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus, located in the heart of Toronto’s Discovery District. This area is home to the largest concentration of student- and faculty-led startups in Canada.

Your opportunity:

This role offers the opportunity to shape and scale entrepreneurship initiatives that empower innovators and founders to build sustainable ventures. Reporting to the Director, University of Toronto Entrepreneurship, the Manager, Strategy and Integrated Content is responsible for amplifying the impact of U of T innovation initiatives and spotlighting opportunities within the ecosystem. The Manager, collaborating with UTC and DUA, will take a strategic approach to generating earned media and creating content for owned and paid activities with an emphasis on stewarding existing partners and attracting newones as part of the Defy Gravity campaign. This could include tactics to attract investors from the venture capital, corporate, government and non-profit sectors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and developing an integrated multi-channel communications strategy independently
  • Developing plans that support proposal development strategies
  • Researching and writing stewardship reports, cultivation material and fundraising proposals
  • Writing targeted communications to support fundraising objectives
  • Writing project-specific proposals and briefings related to fundraising campaigns
  • Liaising with internal contacts to ensure communications reflect advancement campaign goals
  • Editing content for style and tone
  • Developing a media relations plan that supports marketing/communications strategy
  • Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, and/or marketing; or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Six to seven years of relevant experience in integrated marketing and communications.
  • Experience writing project-specific proposals and briefings related to fundraising campaigns.
  • Experience researching and writing stewardship reports, cultivation material and fundraising proposals.
  • Experience developing and implementing communication plans that support strategic objectives and the overall vision of the unit.
  • Experience in project management: conducting needs analysis, plan, organize, manage, monitor and evaluate projects
  • Experience managing multiple substantive project collaborations across organizations.
  • Experience managing relationships across central and divisional units or other complex, multiple stakeholder environments.
  • Successful track record of providing superior service and support in a busy, demanding environment
  • Superior writing ability is an essential requirement. The successful candidate will have demonstrated, through a portfolio of samples, professional-level writingability with respect to style, organization and structure, rhetoric, appropriateness to subject, breadth of subject matter and clear understanding of the target audience(s) and presentation of key message(s)
  • Knowledge and understanding of integrated marketing communications and channel planning.
  • Familiarity with the development of proposals, discussion papers, cases for support and other communications integral to an entrepreneurship environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple resources effectively through collaboration and influence.
  • Ability to process various inputs and data into coherent, persuasive narratives.
  • Ability to craft coherent narratives based on sometimes widely divergent perspectives.


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Familiarity with Canadian innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with post-secondary education system an asset.
