Your opportunity:
The Joint Health & Safety Committee Coordinator has responsibility for providing confidential administrative support to Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSC). The Coordinator provides day-to-day support to JHSCs by preparing and tracking of minutes, inspections, attending meetings, answering queries form JHSC. The Coordinator responds to queries on behalf of the employer regarding health and safety program, policies and position, represents the University for regulatory visits related to JHSC operations, and acts in the capacity of a management member of JHSCs assigned. The JHSC Coordinator maintains records of confidential health and safety issues; gathers information from Human Resources which may be relevant to health and safety issues including injury, illness, absenteeism, expressed health and safety concerns and issues. The role facilitates requests for membership, certification training; ensures regulatory and collective agreement requirement are followed and develops and analyzes EH&S data and reports. The Coordinator handles various sensitive and/or confidential information and is responsible for keeping well informed on relevant policies, rules, regulations and guidelines.
Essential Qualifications:
(MINIMUM)
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational hygiene or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Canadian Registered Safety professional designation and/or occupational health and safety certificate are assets.
Experience:
Minimum three (3) years of relevant administrative experience supporting health & safety activities, preferably in a unionized organization. Prior experience working as an administrator to support health and safety committee(s) is a strong preference, and/or working in a labour relations or human resources environment.
Skills:
Demonstrated strict adherence to confidentiality, superior organizational and information management skills. Demonstrated ability to apply collective agreements, OHSA, organizational policies to a variety of situations. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, ability to prepare meeting minutes, correspondence and to transcribe and perform data entry for detailed, accurate records consisting of technical terminology. Demonstrated initiative, strong customer-service orientation and ability to work well in a team setting. Demonstrated ability to probe for information to ensure pertinent detail is obtained, prioritize multiple- tasks, adapt to changing operational needs.
Other:
Superior Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) skills, excellent keyboarding skills. Strong clerical skills to maintain meticulous filing system and for coordination of schedules, and administrative activities. Ability to manage a large amount of information with strong attention to detail and strict protocols.
