Associate / Full Professor - Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, together with the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health, invite applications for the position of Academic Hepatologist within the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease at Toronto General Hospital, UHN. This appointment is for a five-year term, renewable following a successful review, and is supported by the Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027, or as mutually agreed.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished physician (MD or equivalent) with residency and subspecialty training in hepatology and demonstrated expertise in the management of acute and chronic liver disease. The candidate will possess a distinguished record of scholarly achievement in liver disease research and a compelling vision for advancing and expanding UHN's dynamic, high-volume liver disease program, both clinically and academically.

The successful candidate will join the full-time academic faculty as a Clinician Scientist at UHN and will provide comprehensive care to both ambulatory and hospitalized patients with liver disease. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the candidate will hold a graduate degree (MSc, PhD, or equivalent) and bring an established and impactful program of clinical and/or translational research. The successful candidate will complement existing strengths within the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease and/or develop emerging areas of academic excellence. The Chairholder will be expected to provide research leadership by expanding the academic hepatology program, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and leading investigator-initiated as well as industry-sponsored clinical trials, alongside innovative translational liver disease research.

Applicants must hold an MD degree, or equivalent, and be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or possess equivalent qualifications that would permit eligibility for practice in Ontario. The successful candidate must hold, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Academic rank, compensation, and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and scholarly accomplishments. The position offers a minimum annual income of CAD $350,000, derived from a combination of fee-for-service clinical practice and salary support provided through the Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research. Compensation will be highly competitive and consistent with that of senior academic hepatologists in Ontario. Proficiency in English is required.
