POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders program is a one-time initiative designed to support institutions in attracting internationally based Early Career Researchers to Canada. Emerging Leaders will receive research funding and institutional supports to advance transformative research in Canada’s strategic priority areas, build partnerships across sectors and borders, and translate their research into applications and impacts that benefit Canadians and the world.

The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position to advance transformational research projects that support the growth of the Canadian economy in the following strategic priority area:

  • Democratic and community resilience

The nominee’s research area must demonstrably align with this category. Awards are valued at $100K per year over six years, with the possibility of extension for another six years.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

Emerging Leaders Awards are intended for exceptional emerging scholars. Candidates must be within five years (minus eligible delays) of the start date of their first research-related appointment, defined as an appointment where the individual has the autonomy to conduct research independently. All eligible delays in research (e.g., maternity, parental, medical, bereavement) are credited as twice the amount of time taken. Professional leaves (e.g., training, sabbatical, administrative) are not credited as eligible leaves.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The University of Toronto requires that candidates must have a Ph.D in management, accounting, or a cognate discipline with a focus on strategic management or accounting (e.g., economics, sociology) by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will have established an independent program of research, with potential for impact through collaborations with, but not limited to, the Impact+ Research Chair in Finance and Political Economy and to generate translation and impacts.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence of an internationally competitive calibre, commensurate with their career stage, as demonstrated by a record of contributions or publications in leading journals in the field or a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at significant conferences, accolades or awards, and research presentations at other highly ranked universities, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. We seek individuals who have published in, have papers forthcoming in, or have works in progress meeting the standards of The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting & Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal/Review, American Economic Review, American Journal of Sociology, Management Science, Organization Science and journals of similar calibre and standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching is required and is demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier and strong letters of reference, and for short-listed candidates, a strong performance during the on-campus seminar presentation. The teaching dossier includes a teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities, which can include superior performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

The successful candidate will be expected to mount an innovative, competitive and independently funded research program that is transformational, translational and garners partners.

The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest level, establish an outstanding, independent research program, and publish articles in internationally recognized top-ranked and field relevant academic journals in the fields of accounting, strategy, and/or cognate disciplines.

The successful candidate will undertake undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities in the Rotman School of Management.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.
