About us:
The Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI) department within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Division is a central department responsible for all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the core administrative management and student systems at the U of T. Included within these responsibilities are all central SAP systems, such as Financial Services, Human Resources, Research Administration and Procurement; the central U of T Student System (ROSI); approximately 40 related vendor and specialized web applications, as well as central Business Intelligence and Document Management applications.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the EASI Executive Director, the Senior Communications Officer develops and implements strategic communications, marketing, and digital engagement plans that advance departmental priorities and strengthen brand visibility. The role leads integrated marketing campaigns, creates compelling content for internal and external audiences, manages social media strategies, and advises on communications, branding, and outreach best practices.
The position works closely with senior management, internal stakeholders, partners, vendors, and external contacts to coordinate communications, marketing activities, events, and project initiatives. Responsibilities include developing materials for websites, newsletters, reports, dashboards, surveys,presentations, promotional materials, and other communications products that support project rollouts and departmental objectives.
The role also uses market research, data analysis, campaign metrics, customer feedback, and ROI reporting to evaluate effectiveness and inform decision-making. As a communications resource, the Senior Communications Officer provides guidance on brand standards, project scope, resources, and communication strategies while ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging across all channels.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing communications and marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
- Fostering relationships with internal and external contacts in the coordination of marketing activities
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Designing surveys to support the evaluation of strategies and objectives, producing promotional and outreach materials, implementing marketing project plans
- Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
- Consulting with clients regarding the development of project scope and resources
- Advising on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
- Consulting with clients regarding the development of project scope and resources
- Developing and implementing social media programs and initiatives independently
- Reviewing and approving graphic design materials for publication
- Verifying that all marketing/communication collateral adheres to brand identity and University style guides
- Supporting project initiatives by developing and implementing communications and marketing plans, coordinating communications tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the following:
- Developing and executing comprehensive strategic communications plans that support organizational priorities, engage diverse stakeholder groups and achieve measurable communications objectives.
- Planning, coordinating, and executing promotional rollout strategies for initiatives, programs, services, or projects, including the development of key messaging, communication materials, timelines and multi-channel communications campaigns.
- Supporting communications for IT projects and enterprise systems, with a strong understanding of technology implementation, change management, system upgrades and the communication needs of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong understanding of marketing principles and communications channels, media platforms, digital promotion, and the style and type of content to reach a variety of audiences
- Excellent communication (oral, written and presentation) skills; demonstrated skills engaging with senior decision-makers, community organizations, and with private and public sector partners; demonstrated ability to write in a variety of styles and voices for a range of audiences.
- Strong editing and proofreading abilities; demonstrated ability to write and edit reports and to prepare and present ideas and analysis to a diverse range of audiences.
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work in order to maintain accountability for a complex system.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet strict and competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated diplomacy, political acuity and sound judgment, with the ability to navigate complex organizational environments, manage sensitive issues with discretion, and build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaborative skills; demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels.
- Proven relationship building skills and strong ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relations
