Your Opportunity

The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Arts & Science, invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) position with an appointment of approximately 1 year.

The Research Associate is also required to use and further develop electrical impedance tomography software that has been developed in the Department of Mathematics. Their duties will involve collaboration with a team of graduate students to obtain reconstruction algorithms for electrical impedance.

Key Duties

The Research Associate Limited Term is responsible for conducting research in inverse problems, with a particular emphasis on sound speed reconstruction, and contributes, by way of their academic expertise, to the projects directed by the principal investigator. Research activities will include developing and proving mathematical theorems, supervising graduate students, and writing research papers in pure mathematics. The Research Associate will be liaising with collaborators, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed publications/journals, presenting findings at local, national, and international conferences. The Research Associate is also required to use MATLAB and electrical impedance tomography software within the Department of Mathematics to develop code for application in lab experiments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates require a PhD in Mathematics with specialization in inverse problems, analysis, partial differential equations (PDEs), applied mathematics, or a related area.
  • The candidate must demonstrate excellence in Mathematical research with a strong publication record, experience developing and proving mathematical theorems, conducting rigorous mathematical analysis, and expertise in Analysis and Partial Differential Equations with an emphasis on Inverse Problems.
  • Proficiency in mathematical and scientific computing utilizing MATLAB, specifically experience developing code in MATLAB.
  • Experience with computational imaging techniques, such as electrical impedance tomography, acoustic imaging, or related fields, is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required, and candidates must be able to work collaboratively with others in a large research team.
