Your Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting into the Financial Reporting Manager, this position will provide exciting exposure to various financial accounting and reporting aspects of this quickly scaling start-up as you continue to advance your accounting career. You will be immersed in the following:

• A real start-up environment
• GAAP-based accounting (US)
• Government grant reporting
• Financial audits
• Forecasts
• Accounting software, systems and platforms that can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the monthly accounting cycle

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead government milestone reporting, which includes the provision of evidence to support the pertinent project’s spend (e.g., SRED, SIF, FedDev, etc.).
• Lead the FP&A portion of month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statement analysis, and preparation of board commentary.
• Maintenance of records pertaining to government reporting in our ERP system, NetSuite.
• Maintain data set integrity within our Financial systems to ensure that financial reports are accurate and categorized correctly.
• Develop financial projections and build financial models for management, the Board and existing/potential investors.
• Assist the Financial Reporting Manager with the coordination and compilation of the annual budget.
• Undertake the necessary inquiries and document drivers for budget-vs-actual variances.

• Lead the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
• Ensure that Finance’s accounting policies are compliant with relevant standards.
• Assist with the compilation of documentation for the auditors and the coordination of follow-up requests.
• Develop and track KPIs and prepare financial reports.
• Assist in the preparation of ad hoc requests for C-Suite.

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Holding a professional designation (CPA, CFA).
• 3-5 years of work experience with a background in public accounting and a finance or accounting department, with increasingly expanded and more technical responsibilities.
• 3-4 years of experience in financial planning, analysis and modelling.
• Versatile and able to jump into whatever needs to be done.
• Demonstrated track record of executing consistently.
• Continuously looking at improving systems, processes and policies to automate and streamline tasks.
• Detail-oriented and able to perform in a high-pressure and fast-moving environment.
• Excellent communication and project management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL.
